  1. Basic shapes
    1. Choose desired shape from tool bar.
      1. Rectangle, Ellipse, Star, Polygonal.
      2. To change parameters of each, click on shape you want, then click on pasteboard and change settings in dialog box.
    2. Select and Direct select tool.
      1. Select allows selecting whole object.
      2. Direct select allows for per point selecting.
    3. Fill and Stroke (D=default) (X=switch stroke and fill)
      1. Defines the fill color of you vector shape.
Double click on fill icon to edit color.
      2. Defines the color, size and appearance of stroke on vector shape. Use options in the Stroke panel.
  2. Pen tool
    1. Allows you free form vector path that can be edited by move Bezier handles.
    2. You can also add, remove and convert points.
  3. Line tool
    1. Also contains Arc, Spiral and Grid.
    2. Any of these can then be edited with options in the Stroke panel.
      1. Thickness
      2. Arrowheads
      3. Dashed line
  4. Text Effects
    1. Fill and Stroke.(D=default)(X=switch stroke and fill)
      1. Defines the fill color of you vector shape
      2. Defines the color, size and appearance of stroke on vector 
shape. Use options in the Stroke pane.
    2. Under Effects menu
      1. 3D extrude
      2. Stylize
      3. Warp
    3. Apply swatch
    4. Apply Graphic style. 
Select text and click desired style.
    5. Apply additional strokes or appearance in Appearance panel.
    6. Create outlines. Allows editing on a per point basis.
  5. Type tool options
    1. Type Horizontally
    2. Type Vertically
    3. Type along path
      1. Create path or use existing path. Place text curser over path and click begin typing.
      2. You can also adjust text orientation by dragging the I-beam up, down, left or right.
    4. Area Type Tool
  6. Color panel
    1. Sampling
    2. RGB, CMYK
    3. Web safe
    4. Pantone
  7. Swatch panel
    1. Importing
    2. Creating
  8. Brush
    1. Allows you to paint with as a stroke.
    2. Choose brush style under Brushes panel. You can also define your 
own brush by selecting what you want to be the style, and then 
dragging into the brushes panel.
    3. When adding custom brush you can choose between Scatter, Art and 
Pattern type.
    4. You can also download and load other brush libraries.
  9. Pencil
    1. Lets you draw with a pencil style stroke.
    2. You can also add brush styles to these.
    3. There is also smoothing and erasing option.
  10. Blob
    1. Paints with the fill color.
  11. Eraser
    1. An organic free form style of erasing vector shapes.
  12. Gradient
    1. Create and edit gradients.
    2. Move inkwell handles left or right to change.
    3. Drag inkwell down to remove. Click anywhere in gradient to add new.
  13. Shape builder
    1. Lets you combine, intersect and subtract multiple selected shapes.
    2. Simply drag across shapes you want to combine. Hold down option 
key to subtract shapes.
  14. Live paint
    1. Allows you to paint any object will a fill bucket.
    2. Also has a Live selection tool option.
  15. Variable Width tool
    1. Lets you change the width of a line at any given point.
    2. Also within the sub tools are the distort tools Twirl, Pucker, Bloat etc.
  16. Eye dropper
    1. Samples color of fill or stroke from whatever you click on.
  17. Pathfinder
    1. Similar to the Shape Builder but also has extra option of intersecting, adding and subtracting strokes.
  18. Layers
    1. Stacking order of objects.
    2. Control visibility.
    3. Also contains sub layers.
  19. Transparency
    1. Edit in transparency panel
    2. To the left are the Blending mode options.
  20. Right click menu
    1. Group/ungroup
    2. Arrange menu
    3. Clipping Mask
    4. Create Outlines
