What’s the narrative spine of your piece?

Telling the story of a few skaters struggles and how skateboarding helped them overcome them.  The stories will convey inspiring messages about overcoming things like addiction and depression. Our footage will show the visually striking side of skateboarding. There will be drastic development in our subjects.

What are your main characters? What are your plans for getting footage besides boring talking head shots?

Nick, a person who has been sober for many months now but used to deal with addiction and he also struggles with anxiety on a daily basis. It will be easy to get interesting footage.

How is conflict driving your story?

Our stories begin with all sorts of conflict. The characters will discuss the hardships they went through in detail. Their ability to fight through the conflict well be a major source of inspiration.

What kind of change do you wish to unfold within your piece?

It will start off in a place of darkness and then by showing where our subjects are now, the film will take on a whole new light. It will be a film that doesn’t really reach it’s peak till the very end.

What’s the inciting incident and point of entry in your story?

When skateboarding, amongst other things helped our characters have that final epiphany about their life. This is when the film will really start to brighten up and the remainder of the film will be a celebration of skateboarding and life.

What issues do you foresee having making your piece visually strong?

We really want to include a good amount of original motion graphics, which none of us really have too much experience with. Other than that we hope to film the skateboarding footage in a very stylistic way to make the film as visually strong as possible.

Our Approach

We are going to start with both an intimate and stylistic approach. An intimate approach will get the audience in touch with the emotions of the interviewees, while the stylistic approach will allow us to hone in on our talents. We have a great mix of skills in our group including: music production, video editing and motion graphic design. We’re going to have as much original content as possible because it us important to us to create something that is entirely our own. We’re going to tell inspiring stories that show how skateboarding helped a few specific people overcome life’s many hurdles. We’re going to take an entirely interviewee approach, letting the stories convey the messages themselves. Skateboarding is a form of therapy in a way, it can create happiness when you fall in love with it and we want to show that.
