these are a few pages that i did to give my team an idea of where i was going with the art direction. ultimately i will add more detail but i feel that it gives a good idea
dustin is in charge of the first world boss. he wanted a wurm that breathed a poison. i didn’t get too far into i, and at first i was a little iffy on it. i thought a beast would be a more visual boss. but after talking to nameless a little about his boss and how he incorporated the area into the boss fight, i looked into other games and found this
nameless sent me this link to help me get deeper into sphinx mythology because my monster is such a well known creature, and i was suprised to know about its history in Grease. I thought they originated in Egypt.
THE SPHINX (or Phix) was a female monster with the body of a lion, the breast and head of a woman, eagle’s wings and, according to some, a serpent-headed tail.
She was sent by the gods to plague the town of Thebes as punishment for some ancient crime. There she preyed on the youths of the land, devouring all those who failed to solve her riddle. Kreon, the then regent of Thebes, offered the kingship to any man who could destroy her. Oidipous accepted the challenge, and when he solved the Sphinx’s riddle, she cast herself off a mountainside in despair and in accordance with an oracle declaring the terms of her demise.
Sphinxes were popular in ancient art, especially as sculptural grave stele set upon the tombs of men who died in youth. Decorative sphinxes also appear in animal processions on archaic Greek vases, often alongside lions and bird-bodies sirens.
all of the artists are in charge of one of the three battle worlds of the game. my chapter is the third, the artifact world. i based it heavily on the ester realm from “magic”, and due to my love of sphinxes led to this rough sketch of my world boss.
in the world I’m working in, there is an island in a far distant future. where there was once a king that created a pet to rule after his death, that created was a robot and tried with all its might to imitate what he knew to be human. unable to understand the contradiction that existed within the human condition, he seeks out all humans and asks them riddles in hopes to understand their life. but if they can’t answer the riddle it kills them and examines the body in hopes to understand their death.
didn’t see that coming, but I’m excited. after i had told the group that we weren’t presenting they all relaxed. the thing I’m worked abut most is that we now need to get back ion gear.
the next few days i will be reposting on this site, fun news is that apparently i didn’t know what a beard was.
some of the backgrounds used in the above post came from a few artists on deviant art. here are the links to their work that i used
the game world we are making is our own, but as any art it is drawn from other things. as far as the places in the game work, there are 4 worlds, one world that the players live in and 3 worlds that they travel to so they can fight monsters and do dungeons and things.
all of is who are working play a game called magic, and i drew heavily from that game for inspiration on the way the worlds should look, above are some cards from the game “magic the gathering” that inspired some of the world design
i wont tell you which is which because that would ruin the fun, but all these cards make up all 4 worlds in one way or another
seeing how i didn’t really present well today i decided to post up all the things i have be neglecting to post lately.
As i have been working with my team, i have been talking note of how much time we spend on each activity on average. Its a rough estimate based on how the amount of time we spend varies. The black circle represents 100% of the time we spend together every week as a group, every circle inside represents the amount of time we spend toward that activity.
