Join instructor Peter Overstreet and Special Effects veteran Don Bies in an interview/discussion outlining the history of special effects, its current state and potential future. The discussion will be framed with an overview of Bies’ 28 year career history, starting with his work on the Academy Award winning The Fly to modern classics such as The Pirates of the Caribbean films and the Star Wars prequels. Behind the scenes stories, photos and video highlight some of his work, and the two will discuss the role and focus modern artists need to have to work in this changing profession.

Don began his career with Lucasfilm operating the remote control R2-D2 for personal appearances and commercials while acting as the Lucasfilm Archives curator. As curator, he organized a number of exhibitions, and eventually began working at Industrial Light & Magic. As a supervising model maker, Don has numerous credits in well-known films and television commercials.
